Movie Review : Phir Hera Pheri

I have been trying to watch Phir Hera Pheri since many days now – having loved Hera Pheri, I have been under the impression that this movie had to be good. However both at the critics and audiences in Bollywood, it has received mixed response. The desi blogosphere seems a bit confused as well on this movie.

Full2Faltu while still recommending it more than Garam Masala and Malamaal Weekly (both of which I agree were quite pathetic) calls Phir Heri Pheri a failed sequel

So does the sequel work? The answer is “Yes” to some extent. It’s ‘don’t worry’ kind of entertainment. You leave your brain at home, watch the movie, laugh aloud and come out of the theatre smiling and remembering the situation.

Aniket however has not been kind and calls Phir Hera Pheri an insult to the original. And I am surprised as hell too that this movie has made it to Oscar library! Shravan describes it as a complete disaster.

Phir Hera Pheri is an absolute disaster. It does not even live up to the standards of the trailors of Hera Pheri 1. It is almost a shame that such cult characters have been wasted by a director as pathetic as Niraj Vora. The storyline is almost as thin as Bipasha Basu’s waist, and the comedy is totally disconnected from reality.

The mood continues with Aditya’s take on Phir Hera Pheri who sums it up quite succinctly:

Imagine after watching Hera Pheri, you made a list of all things that could have gone wrong, but thankfully didn’t. After watching Phir Hera Pheri, you will actually find, that all those things have been done in the sequel. Repetetive jokes, unnecessary physical farcical comedy, to name a few.

There’s hope though. I did manage to read some reviews on the positive side, however most of the posts that I came across were short posts about how they loved Paresh Rawal, or Bipasha Basu, or how Sunil Sheity sucked or Akshay Kumar rocked and such. Nonetheless, the overall feeling here is in the negative.

I will wait for some of my friend to get the DVD of Phir Hera Pheri – I ain’t wasting 2$ behind it. Till then, I can safely watch Heri Pheri again and again I guess. Meanwhile you got an opinion on Phir Hera Pheri, let me know and I will read it up!
